Utility Nova Scotia Power (NS Power) has ordered 150MW/705MWh (DC) of Solbank for three projects in the Atlantic Canadian province. The Bridgewater, Waverley, and White Rock projects – each of 50MW/200MWh – will be built by the end of 2026, with the first set to come online in 2025.

The discrepancy between the order size and the projects’ nameplate combined capacity is because BESS projects are generally overbuilt, to account for either DC-AC conversion losses or for capacity degradation as the system charges and discharges (or both).

The three projects were approved by the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board (NSUARB) last month and will require a total investment of CA$354 million (US$260 million). The projects will help the grid integrate new renewable energy, namely 1GW of new wind, and the phase-out of coal plants.

In concurrent news, e-Storage has also landed a 498MWh order from BESS developer and operator Aypa Power for its Bypass project in Texas. Bypass will be built in Fort Bend County and is expected to come online in the third quarter of 2025.

Some 106 units of Solbank will be paired with 65 power conversion system (PCS) units for the project.

E-Storage expects to ship around 7GWh of BESS this year, primarily Solbank, over three times more than last year. In a recent interview with Energy-Storage.news (Premium access), VP commercial Jeff Roy, Parkin’s second-in-command, said the firm’s combination of EPC and system integration with its strong manufacturing background made it uniquely placed in the intensely competitive global BESS market.
